Kids art frame colour guide: natural wood, white or black

Natural wood, white or black? All three are the same PeekDoodle™ frame at the same price, and the mat inside is white in every version. The only question is the wall.

Natural wood: the default answer

A warm oak-grain finish. It is the one most people order, because a child's drawing is already full of colour and a wood border does not argue with it. It works next to existing furniture, in a living room or a hallway, and in a child's room that will be redecorated twice before they leave home. If you cannot decide, order this one.

White: for pale walls and for rows

White reads as part of the wall rather than as an object on it. Pick it for a nursery, for a pale or papered wall, or when you are hanging two or three frames in a line and want the drawings to read as one set. White also photographs well, which matters more than you would think when you are sending a picture of the new drawing to the grandparents every week.

Black: for contrast

A black border makes crayon and poster paint look stronger. Pick it for a hallway, a home office, a dark or strongly coloured wall, or when the frame is going somewhere adult and you want it to look deliberate rather than sweet. Black shows dust and fingerprints more than the other two, and a frame that gets opened twice a week does collect fingerprints.

Mixing colours in a multi-pack

You can. The two-pack at $58.50 and the three-pack at $78 take any mix, and the discount applies in the cart on its own. One natural wood for the living room and one white for the nursery is a common pair. If the frames are going next to each other in a row, matching them usually looks better than mixing.

What the colour does not change

Size, depth, capacity, the mat, the acrylic front, the magnet closure and the hooks are identical across all three. Every version is about 34 × 25 cm, holds about fifty ordinary A4 sheets, and hangs horizontally or vertically. The hinge side is fixed on all three and is not selectable.
